Request for App Store reviews (and a reponse to a negative review)

costmo — Thu, 09/18/2008 - 00:36

[DEVELOPER'S NOTE]: The statement below that there is "not even one report of a problem" are no longer accurate. The user's problem was real, but only experienced by a very few users with an unlocked iPhone (which is only even legal in a very few countries). All issues discussed in this thread have been resolved in version 1.2.0 - even for those who have unlocked devices.[/DEVELOPER'S NOTE]

We've received a lot of positive feedback about TimeLogger, and now, one negative review on the App Store.

One reviewer on the App Store claims that TimeLogger crashes one iPhone/iPod OS 2.1, whereas, we've had no other similar complaints and have tested extensively on OS 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and 2.1 on several devices. This reviewer also did not give us a chance to respond, help, or offer the suggestion that he/she request a refund from Apple, which they give quickly and liberally to people who report problems. This reviewer didn' t even give us the courtesy of informing us where or under what circumstances his/her installation is failing. We have had many sales since the 2.1 update, and not even one report of a problem has been given to us.

The only other similar complaint was from a user running iPhone OS 2 (prior to 2.1), which had problems with third party apps that even Steve Jobs acknowledged.

As you might guess, negative reviews (even one) can be very harmful to small companies that have created great software. We understand that many companies providing iPhone apps are doing a poor job, but I think that our public record of regular updates and support that can be seen on our forums speaks to the quality of the product that we have produced, as well as the personal support that we are willing to provide to those in need.

If our program was experiencing widespread problems - or even devastating problems that affected a very few people - we would be very quick to pull it form the App Store. Selling faulty apps just isn't going to do good for any business. Furthermore, Apple's review process weeds out programs that are non-functional.

If you are a happy user of TimeLogger, or decide to purchase it and are happy with the results you are receiving, please go into the App Store and leave us a positive review.

If you are having problems, please give us a chance to respond and help. We're here and happy to provide whatever support we can. If your issue(s) are not resolvable (we haven't yet seen such a case), we are willing (and happy) to help you with the process of requesting a refund from Apple.
